Good Hope
Once in Arusha we made our way to an orphanage called Good Hope. We had packed an extra suitcase full of school supplies and fun stuff for the kids that we were ready to unload. Good Hope looks after 15 children between the ages of three and eleven. Although they were incredibly shy and quiet at first, the kids eventually warmed up to us as we played with them during our visit. Having seen so many desperate faces driving through Africa, it was nice to be able to do something for others during our trip.
Below is Ally, the orphanage’s coordinator. He organizes and supports volunteers, handles donations and assists volunteers with planning fundraising events. He gave us a tour of the grounds, including the school that the orphanage runs. Made me think twice about complaining about any lack of resources in the UAE.
A sobering visit for sure, but we were happy to find that the kids were well clothed, fed, educated, and loved as the staff that we met seemed to have a genuine heart for them. We did what we could and will be keeping in touch.

The children truly look happy, well cared for – Thank God for such places. Do the children speak English? Their smiles speak the universal language that we can all understand. I wish I was there.
The kids are taught English in school so yeah, they could speak it, the older ones better than the younger ones.
Beautiful post. I’m glad you visited such a place, as it’s so easy to get caught up in the touristy things. Again, thanks for sharing.
