Lake Manyara Safari
Just as magically as they appeared in our Abu Dhabi lives, my parents disappeared today. There were some sad goodbyes at Dubai International this morning but we’re all happy at the thought that the next time we see each other we’ll be in each other’s company for good!
Although they’ve left us, our time spent with my parents will live on a while longer as I blog about our time in Africa together beginning with day one of our safari at Lake Manyara National Park. I was lucky enough to have received a 300mm telephoto lens from Mom and Dad for Christmas, as you’ll see, it came in incredibly handy!
Mom and I were surprised at how lush and green our experience of Africa had turned out to be. We both expected more of a dry terrain but obviously it depends where you go in Africa… Anyways, look at the animals we saw!

Beautiful! I love the lioness in the tree with her bum sticking out!
Horray!! Looks amazing.
Oh my! I love every photo. Giraffes and elephants are my favourite. And the trees. Yep, lions too. It’s all so beautiful.
Hehe, I showed my mom these pictures and when she saw the water buffalo she said “Oooh, I like their horns; looks like my hair some days.”
So beautiful!! Love the Hornbills and the black and red bird in the tree. Wow. Definitely want a copy of that for my desktop wallpaper. Now I have to research and find out what the other birds are. And with the new lens, we’ll see MORE bird pictures from now on?? lol Just so you know, we have a mini Snowy Owl invasion happening back here. Saw a pure white one over by Stratford, and a mottled juvenile sitting on the power lines on 83 Highway on the way home.
great photos…must have been fantastic to be so close to them and see them moving…love the photos..you should frame some of them…looking forward to more photos..
Heather now I’m really curious about your mom’s hair-dos
Rick, the best bird photos are yet to come, stay tuned
What an amazing adventure you two have had. These are memories that will last a lifetime. I am so glad that you have done this when you are young enough to enjoy it without the encumbrance of mortgages and kids. I did my travelling young too and I am so happy I did that.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing Sarah..
